Progress of schemes under 3 depts reviewed
ITANAGAR, Jun 16: State Power Secretary Sanjay Kumar Saxena has reviewed the progress of various important major schemes and the PM’s Package in a joint meeting of the Power and Hydro Power departments and APEDA at Banquet Hall here yesterday.
The heads of the department, the Chief Engineer (Transmission Zone), Power, Er. Anong Perme, Chief Engineer (Central Electrical Zone), Power, Er. Takar Mara, Chief Engineer, Department of Hydro Power Development, Er. Lipe Ete and director, APEDA, Er. Marki Loya attended the meeting along with their respective subordinate senior officers, the Superintending Engineers, Executive Engineers, deputy directors and project officers.
The meeting also discussed various other issues relating to coordination at various levels, improvement of power generations from hydel projects and measures to increase revenue collection and improve PLF of power stations. Besides these, the members present in the meeting discussed the projects to be taken on priority basis and the means and ways to reduce transmission and distribution losses, examine feasibility of allowing APEDA as a franchisee under DOP’s scheme etc. The field engineers appreciated the initiative of the Secretary (Power) to review the work progress of the line departments and shared their experiences and opinions on various issues.
Pinch to continue as NCP president
ITANAGAR, Jun 16: The central NCP leadership has asked Ngurang Pinch to continue as the Party’s State Unit President till further order.
After the names of Pinch and Kahfa Bengia came up for the party presidentship, the central NCP high command, consequent upon the report of the State Election Authority and State Returning Officer entrusted Jimi George, National Secretary, incharge of Arunachal Pradesh to take stoke of the situation and come to a conclusive decision, informed Daniel Teli, State General Secretary (Adm & Org) of the party.
George after taking view from some senior party workers and leaders has apprised the matters to the Central Office which afterward decided on Pinch’s name till further orders.
Post subject teachers
ITANAGAR, Jun 16: All Upper Subansiri District Students’ Union visited Taliha Secondary School and Kodak Higher Secondary school recently.
The union expressed their displeasure over the deteriorating condition of the schools and shortage of subject teachers.
It appealed to the state government and the concerned authority to post Junior Teacher (Mathematics) and Senior Teacher (English) before the beginning of new academic session.
It further said that both the schools are in need of fund for maintenance and infrastructure development.

DA’s sanitation drive on bandh day
ITANAGAR, Jun 16: The Capital Complex district administration in collaboration with urban development department had carried out a sanitation drive at Capital complex during the bandh hour on June 13 and 14.
In a release deputy commissioner Sanjay Goel informed that notion of sanitation drive during bandh call came after observing heaps of garbage lying in and around capital complex. At least ten garbage trucks were engaged on sanitation drive during the bandh hours. DC further lamented that miscreants had partially damaged the garbage trucks during the bandh hours.
Further DC appealed all to cooperate with sanitation teams in days to come.
Org seeks govt intervention
ITANAGAR, Jun 16: Bogong Banggo Kebang, Bogong Banggo Yameng Kebang and All Bogong Students' Union who are also supporting the demands of Pasighat Peoples’ Welfare Committee appealed to the state government and the concerned department to immediately fulfill the demands of PPWC before June 22.
Meanwhile, PPWC Chairman Okom Yosung expressed his dissatisfaction to elected public representatives of East Siang district.He said that despite repeated appealed for discussion of the issues in the recently held public meeting the representatives of the department of hydro power and Electro mechanic/ Civil and elected representatives of the district did not turned up.

ITANAGAR, Jun 16: All Tagin Youth Organization (ATYO) has appealed to the Forest department to check rampant deforestation in Upper Subansiri district.
Lauding the Daporijo Forest Range Officer Kali Paja and his staff for seizing wildlife meat during recently conducted raid at Daporijo, the organization urged the forest officials to continue such surprise checking against illegal selling of wildlife in the district.
Saying that selling and hunting of wildlife and destruction of forests become a common phenomenon in Upper Subansiri district, the Organisation assured to extend support to the activities being carried out by the development agencies for wellbeing of the district and its people.
Association appeals
ITANAGAR, Jun 16: While welcoming the renaming of existing planning and monitoring zone of the power (electrical) department as ‘Transmission, Planning and Monitoring zone’, All Arunachal Pradesh Youth Contractors Welfare Association (AAPYCWA) today has said that some of the transmission lines have not been handed over to the newly separated transmission zone.
Though the transmission zone of the department has started its functioning, the Kothalguri to Deomali (220KV), Hoz to Itanagar (132 KV), Along to Pasighat (132 KV) and Ziro to Along (132 KV) transmission lines have not been handed over to transmission zone yet, the Association claimed. The Association urged the higher authorities to direct the CEs of Eastern, Central and Western Zones to hand over the said transmission lines to the transmission zone so that the contractors, who are engaged in transmission lines works, can complete the projects without any hindrance. It furtehr said that the contractors are facing problems in completion of projects due to lack of coordination between distribution and transmission zones.

ITANAGAR, Jun 16: Claiming gross violation of guidelines in construction of the upgraded EGs to primary school and Anganwadi centre in Sikhe village under Pistana circle of 16th Yachuli Assembly Constituency, Lower Subansiri District Nyishi Students’ Union (LSDNSU) today castigated the executing department and contractor of the projects saying instead of contruction of two separate buildings, both the school and the Centre were accommodated in one building.
Union further alleged that department had released the payment for the schemes and accepted photos without proper verification of the implementation of the schemes.
Regain the lost glory: CM tells Brahmaputra Board
ITANAGAR, Jun 16: Chief Minister Nabam Tuki today expressed optimism that the Brahmaputra Board, which had gone into oblivion for a stretch of time, has resurrected by making its presence felt with a Board Meeting held here yesterday.
He, however, asserted that the Board, which had much significance once, has to gear up its activities to regain its lost glory and start from where it had left.

Interacting with the Board’s Chairman Kasindra Yadav, Chief Engineer D J Borgohain and Secretary J Barman, who called on him here this morning, the Chief Minister drew their attention towards the hiccups being faced by the Lower Subansiri Hydro Project (LSHP) of NHPC, which was initially started by the Board. In fact the Board had done the preliminary survey and investigations for the project before it was handed over to NHPC.
Tuki reminded that the LSHP was a pet project of the Brahmaputra Board, therefore
it held some responsibilities towards it. Expressing grave concerns over the agitation
launched against the project by Assam-
“You have the technical expertise and because of your initiation the project had started. Now you should explain the genuineness of the project to those opposing it,” Tuki suggested.
He pointed out that as Brahmaputra Board, a wing of the Union Ministry of Water Resources, was formed by an Act of Parliament in the early eighties to mitigate flood situations in the Brahmaputra basin, it had the responsibility to enlighten the people on the advantages of its initiatives.
“On Assam’s demands to mitigate floods in the plains, the Board had begun the project in the upper reaches of the Brahmaputra. Now when people in Assam are opposing the same project, it is the duty of the Board to demystify their apprehensions in every possible forum,” Tuki said.
The Chief Minister also emphasized on the major role to be played by the Board now that the idea of NEWRA has almost been shelved.
“You have to strengthen the Board by leaps and bounds and work in interest of each individual state of the region with renewed vigour,” he advised.
Yadav, who took over the Board as Chairman only a month ago, while assuring the CM of all possible assistance informed that the Center was in process of revamping the Board. Soon the Board would have jurisdiction over river basins in upper reaches of West Bengal and the whole of Sikkim while the north eastern states were already under it.

Committee to solve Pasighat power crisis
ITANAGAR, Jun 16: An eight member high level committee headed by Power Minister Tanga Byaling was constituted to oversee and solve the present problems related to power supply to East Siang district, particularly Pasighat Township here today.
The committee held a threadbare discussion on the matter and directed the departments concerned to immediately take necessary steps for restoration of Rina, Siryuk and Yembung Hydel stations to mitigate the present power crisis in Pasighat town.
Progress of construction of 132KV Tower Line from Aalo to Pasighat and its possibilities of funding mechanism for completion of the scheme has also been discussed during the meeting.
Education Minister Bosiram Siram along with both the field Chief Engineers of Power and Hydropower would visit the area on June 20 and have a detailed discussion with the general public including the agitating organizations on June 21 for solving the power problems.
Pema acknowledges educational contribution of Christian Missionary

ITANAGAR, Jun 16: The great contribution of Christian Missionaries to the tribal society in Arunachal Pradesh in field of Education and social reform was today gratefully acknowledged by Tourism Minister Pema Khandu.
Inaugurating the newly constructed Girls Hostel of Calvary English School, Moinhappa near here, Khandu said the private Christian schools in the state have been playing an important role in providing quality education. Besides, valuable Christian insights are helping many of us to lead a disciplined and dignified life, Pema said. Saying that every student must have an aim in life, he advised the students to be disciplined, punctual and study hard to fulfill their ultimate goal in life. He also reminded the role of teachers and parents in moulding a child’s future. He said that the problem and grievances of teachers should be taken care of properly by the school authority. He assured to pursue the RW Department for blacktopping of the school approach road.
Touching upon the tourism sector, Pema said that though the state has got vast potential in this sector it could be developed mainly due to communication problem. Once the road infrastructure is developed, state tourism would surely prosper and Arunachal Pradesh would become best tourism destination in entire North East India, he said.
Pema presented each of the 390 students of the school with a pen and also contributed Rs. 2 lakh to the school fund from Dorjee Khandu Foundation.
Arunachal Christian Forum (ACF) general secretary Toko Teki fondly remembered Late Dorjee Khandu’s love and affection towards the minority Christians in the state. He informed that the Girls Hostel inaugurated by the Tourism Minister was constructed with a cost of Rs.32 lakh out of the Rs. 5.15 crore fund provided by late Khandu for taking up educational development activities of Christian community in the state.
Local MLA Techi Kaso, Nyishi Baptist Church Council (NBCC) General Secretary Rev. Halli Likha Ama also spoke on the occasion and remembered Late Khandu’s contribution towards social and educational development of Christian community in Arunachal Pradesh.

Rebia calls for preservation of mithuns
KIMIN Jun 16: Parliamentary Secretary of Planning and Industries Nabam Rebia called upon the people to protect and preserve mithun while addressing a huge gathering on the occasion of Longte festival at Lora Top, Kimin.
He said since time immemorial mithun has been considered as pride of society and it is associated with socio economy and culture of the people in various parts of the state. He further said that with changing face of time, the concept of rearing of mithuns is also changing and the people should adopt more innovative ideas to have multifaceted benefits from it.
He further said celebration of Longte Yullo festival itself is celebration for prosperity of animals especially mithuns and it also embodies people movement towards the protection and preservation of this auspicious animal. He asked the veterinary department to take up steps of chain linked fencing of community land and grassland and appeal the mithun owners to take full advantage of the facilities provided by the department for immunization of animals.
Speaking on the developmental aspect, Rebia said he is giving more emphasis on balanced development of the district on all fronts and asked the people to develop positive outlook towards all developmental projects so that it can be successfully completed in a time bound period. He also lauded ITBP for rendering yeoman service to people of Kimin and Papum Pare district as a whole.
Deputy Commissioner Pige Ligu called for preserving and protection of mithuns in a better way and suggested that a pilot project may be initiated in the district to radio track the whereabouts of mithuns by injecting micro chips. He said that such system will also prevent mithun theft cases in the future.
Joint Director Animal Husbandry NG Menta appealed to the people to stop indiscriminate killing of mithuns in the name of rituals and reiterated that establishment of community rearing center will ease the process of vaccination during any occassion.
